Terms of Service & Community Rules

The short version

SwearBy is a map of places people genuinely vouch for. Be honest, be kind, and only recommend places you'd stake your name on. Recommendations can never be bought — not by venues, not by anyone.

1. Your account

You must be at least 17 years old to use SwearBy. You're responsible for your account and for everything posted from it. One account per person; accounts are for people, not businesses.

2. Your content

You own the recommendations, notes, photos, and lists you post. By posting, you grant SwearBy a non-exclusive license to display that content in the app and on SwearBy web pages (for example, when you share a list). You can delete your content at any time, and deleting your account removes it everywhere.

3. Community rules

• Only vouch for places you've actually been. SwearBy runs on real experience — no hearsay, no favors.
• No paid or incentivized recommendations. Accepting anything of value in exchange for a recommendation — money, free meals, discounts — is the one unforgivable offense. Accounts that do this are removed permanently.
• Venue owners and brands: you may not recommend your own venue or have staff do it — and you may not offer guests money, discounts, comped food or drinks, or anything else of value in exchange for a vouch, a list placement, or a follow. Telling guests you're on SwearBy is welcome; paying for their voice is not. Vouches obtained through incentives are removed.
• No harassment, hate, or impersonation. Notes should be about places, not attacks on people.
• Keep it legal and appropriate. No content that's unlawful, sexually explicit, or promotes harm.

4. Reporting and enforcement

Every recommendation, list, and profile can be reported in the app. We review reports within 24 hours. Content that breaks these rules is removed; accounts that break them repeatedly — or break the paid-recommendation rule once — are banned. If you see a venue offering anything in exchange for vouches, report any of its recommendations in the app or email us — incentivized vouches are removed, and the accounts that posted them knowingly are treated the same as any paid recommendation. You can also block any user, which hides their content from your experience entirely.

5. Verification

The verified badge marks hospitality-industry professionals whose identity and profession we've confirmed. It can't be bought, and it can be withdrawn.

6. The service

SwearBy is provided as-is, without warranties. We may modify or discontinue features. Venue data comes partly from Google; we don't guarantee its accuracy (places close, hours change). We're not responsible for your experience at any venue.

7. Termination

You can delete your account at any time in Profile → Edit Profile. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

8. Changes

If these terms change materially, we'll note it in the app. Continued use means acceptance.
